It’s time

Well, It’s taken over a year of searching, tweaking, playing, fiddling, you name it and I’ve struggled along, but it’s finally happened. I have located the new theme for the pro website, which will be accompanied by a minor rebuild and rebrand in places, but it’s finally the site I want. I’m hoping to have [...]

Extended Server Maintenance Tonight

From around 6PM GMT tonight the server will experience extended downtime for a number of hours whilst I re-image the server from Debian, to CentOS. I’m doing this for a number of reasons, but it’s mainly to increase security and stability and make up for some of Debians shortcomings! Sorry about the inconvenience

New Site Layout Now Up

Just a quick note to say the new site template is now up! Hope you all like! Just another note – the twitter widget is broken – i cant seem to change it’s colour so its transparent for some reason, so it’s been disabled, and the gallerys still rely on flash, as I’m still working [...]

Brief update

I’m really sorry that I havnt been moving quicker with this, but my last post was not entirley truthfull. The website still had one major bug within the comments that made them completley unreadable. I am pleased to say that this has now been fixed, although I don’t think I will ever recover from it. [...]

The Face Of The Future

Hello again everyone. This is a somewhat minor update yet one I am more than happy to type out. Two days ago, both myself and Sean Nicholls my PHP consultant, began work on the new site template. Currently we don’t know how long it wil be before the site is relaunched. We had hoped that [...]

Regarding the look, making the feel

Ok so I’ve looked around and found four potential designs that I want to look at for this site, which I will list below, but remember, don’t take them all at face value, each will be edited and customised to my personal tastes and to fit in with the site schemea. Lets start with template [...]

The order of things

The Order Of Things I did a terrible thing. I spent over a month solidly working hard on the redesign of this website, comparing different things, and looking at things I can add in. I consulted and worked closley with Andrew Kennett and Sean Nicholls, the two consultants I had with me when redesigning the [...]

The look and feel

Over the past few weeks, this site has received an overwhelmingly positive amount of feedback through email, but I’m still a little distressed as to why no-one has thought to use the comment feature. Yet stats are showing that in the first month there have been 31393 hits on this site. Yet something about the [...]

Mobile Gallery Now Available

Well after a little fiddling around I’ve managed to get the mobile gallery working properly (to an extent).  All mobile users can now access the gallery slideshow feature on an image by image basis. I have tried to get it to load up in that familure picture style that you get on the iPhone however [...]

Fault Finding

It seems I have located the error in the stats system Turns out the stats system is not correctly counting visits, but is correctly counting page views. Wassup was detecting browsers scanning for RSS links which were indicating another hit which was not correct, similarly statpress was counting the correct number of pageviews, but not [...]

Welcome to the new site!

fplogoWelcome to the new site, God I’m nervous… Will you all like it? Will you hate it? Will you use the features I’ve been working hard to put in place… I don’t know, but there’s a real heart wrenching story for me, in the fact that I loved the old site, because it was me, It was my design, It was MY site. All of it. And being sat here writing this post a few days before the site goes live… Well I have to say I’m looking at my old site, wishing it could stay, but it just isn’t realistic.

Errrgh

Being fed up is not something I like to be. True there are times that venting frustration and even anger are well worth it, and somewhat satisfying, but right now I’m fed up. Unfortunatley I have become a casualty of the recession, being screwed over and made redundant.

True It has given me much time to reflect on things, plus begin work on certain things that I am vastly behind on (like sorting out my website) but other than that……

Is it time for a change?

This incarnation of the website has been up for almost two years now, and whilst it’s a far cry from the style I had when this site first started, it’s never been… what I want it to be. Right now it’s got some style, but it’s too sterile…. This is an archive post from the old website.. Click the Read More Button to view the full post

A Huge Thank You!

In 2006, thelongmile.net was born.

It was bland, and there is no doubt about that, but since then, you’ve helped it grow tremendously.

I’ve just completed the reports on the page counts for 2006, 2007 and 2008, and thanks to you, since this site began, thelongmile.net has been visted…. This is an archive post from the old website.. Click the Read More Button to view the full post

A Lesson In Memory Cards

And a happy new year to you all. Let’s hope everyone had a fabulous christmas break. I’m excited to see what challenges 2009 bring me, and I hope you are too.

On to the title of this post. A Lesson In Memory Cards.
In my last post, I promised to be taking pictures of the Winter Wonderland in Cardiff. And I did! I was treated to an array of spectacular scenes which I happily snapped and shot, getting some of my best work yet…. This is an archive post from the old website.. Latest News 29 November 2008

I have begun the mammoth task of updating all of the pages to CSS however this really is more of a task than I realized. When I created the site, each page had it’s own style sheet, meaning some styles conflicted. I’ve converted the home page to a style sheet, but the others are going to take a long time to integrate…..This is an archive post from the old website..
